Join Piedmont Opera for Winterreise or Winter’s Journey, a masterful song cycle by Austrian composer Franz Schubert. Experience the haunting beauty of acclaimed baritone Kevin Burdette, who has captivated audiences at some of the world’s most prestigious opera houses, including La Scala, The Metropolitan Opera, Santa Fe Opera, and Atlanta Opera.
Mr. Burdette will be accompanied Piedmont Opera's Interim Artistic Director Joseph Mechavich on the piano.
This 75-minute work for singer and piano sets 24 evocative poems by Wilhelm Müller to music, tracing the wandering protagonist’s longing for love, home, and ordinary happiness—only to have it denied at every turn.
Presented as an intimate in-home concert, this performance brings you close to the artistry and emotion of Winterreise, offering a rare, personal encounter with one of classical music’s most profound journeys. Only 50 tickets are available.

Composed in two parts during 1827—the first 12 songs in February 1827, the second 12 songs in October 1827
The cycle was first performed in an informal private setting—Schubert sang the songs to friends (including at Schober’s)—in spring 1827; this gathering was later recalled by his friend Joseph von Spaun.
