MeMBERSHIP Information

We advise all prospective choristers and their parents to read with attendance guidelines and other important information below before arranging for an audition.

The Vocal Placement Interview is a way for the conductor to get to know our future singers. PYC aims to establish a welcoming environment so that we may best support our young musicians and their goals. The audition will take approximately 5 minutes.

In the auditions you can expect the following:

  • Answer questions about musical background and personal strengths.

  • Sing a vocal selection of your choosing. Examples of songs could be Happy Birthday, The Star-Spangled Banner, Row, Row, Row Your Boat, etc. There is no accompanist at the interview, so be prepared to sing a cappella.

  • Echo back some short, simple melodies.

  • Sing along with some vocal exercises with the conductor.

Chorus Membership

Being a member of the PYC means participating in the fun of making music. It also means accepting the responsibilities that go along with being a member of a renowned choral group. Successful chorus participation demands more than musical skill and artistry. It requires commitment, dedication, and a strong sense of personal responsibility.

Attendance Guidelines Overview

Consistent, on-time attendance is the number one responsibility of PYC members! We expect our choristers to be on time and present at all rehearsals, performances, and special events throughout the program year.

Absences interfere with the individual chorister’s ability to progress and undermine the musical integrity of the entire chorus. Therefore, choristers who do not  meet PYC’s standards for attendance and punctuality may not be allowed to continue.
