The Light in the Piazza Read the Review - BRAVO! Light in the Piazza is Brilliant - Ken Keuffel, Winston Salem Journal 10/12/08
The year is 1953. Margaret and Clara Johnson, mother and daughter from Winston Salem, are on vacation in Florence. While there they encounter history, culture, and a young man…Fabrizio. After a chance meeting, Fabrizio and Clara begin a romance which creates complications both at home and in Italy. The Light in the Piazza won six Tony Awards in 2005, including Best Score and Best Book. Piedmont Opera presents a new production of this work designed by Howard Jones, with costumes by Katherine Grillo. Our production will be an opera house premiere. Dorothy Danner returns to direct following her Piedmont Opera successes with The Merry Widow, Manon, and The Pirates of Penzance. Help us welcome the Johnsons home to Winston Salem, and see what happened on their summer vacation. “The most intensely romantic score of any Broadway musical since West Side Story.” - The New York Times Scheduled Times:
